Thirsty Thursday {Lava Flow}

I've been dreaming of Maui with the little bit of sunshine we've had today! One of my favorite drinks to make at the condo is a Lava Flow. Perfect for sipping on the balcony while watching the waves roll in!

Here's the recipe I like to use:

Ingredients:
1 oz. light rum
1 oz. Malibu® coconut rum
2 oz. fresh or frozen strawberries
1 small banana
2 oz. unsweetened pineapple juice
2 oz. coconut cream

Preparation:
Blend the 2 rums and the strawberries in a blender to form a smooth paste. Pour this mixture into a tall (Collins or Hurricane) glass. Rinse the blender. Blend the banana, the coconut cream, and the pineapple juice in blender with crushed ice until smooth. Pour this mixture into the glass with the rums very slowly and watch as the strawberry mixture oozes its way to the top along the sides of the glass creating the flowing lava effect. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and paper umbrella.

Now you can pretend to be at the beach too!

Saint James Galathee Shirt

My favorite stripe shirt is the Saint James Galathee Shirt, which has truly been a wardrobe staple for me. I've worn it with jeans, skirts, under sweaters, and on top of oxfords.

Fashion Show Outfit

Last night at my Junior League meeting I won a VIP ticket to a fashion show in our area's Fashion Week! I am super excited about it! Of course, now I am stressing about what to wear. I've been to a few other fashion shows but this one is way more of a big deal!

This is what I am currently planning on wearing:

Dress: Sheridan French // Necklace: Kendra Scott // Blazer: J.Crew // Clutch: Tory Burch

Have you been to a fashion show before? Do you all have any suggestions?

The Working Girl Watch

A few weeks ago, I did a post on "Working Girl Wedges" so today I thought I would share another of my 'Working Girl' favorites: the classic watch.

I know most people use the clock on their phone to tell the time, as I also do, but it's really not professional at work. Whether I'm in a meeting or break at the office, I rely on my watch to make sure I am on time throughout the day.

My favorite WGW! Love the 2 toned metals!

When looking for a watch for work, pick something classic. I would steer clear of bright colors and plastic-y straps. My strap favorites are leather or metal. I do wear chronograph watch, but a simple face is nice also. My current watch is a Michele, which can be pricey- but Nordstrom rack carries them form time to time. Micheal Kors is a standby favorite, but I've always loved the classic and more reasonably priced Timex watch. It's an added bonus if the strap can be changed out! Basically you want something classic- not loud, that will complement your work wardrobe.

Do you wear a watch to work?

That Time We Gave Up Shopping For Lent {Link Up}

Yep, you read that right. I gave up shopping for Lent! A few of my favorite blogger ladies did as well! We decided to group together for support and to bring you a fun series over the next few weeks on how to deal with being on a 'shopping ban'.

Sydney @ Summer Wind

As a Catholic, I grew up giving up something I love during each Lenten season. But, this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to a 'shopping ban' whether it be for lent or just because; so I have a few tips for you all:

1. Change your thinking. When you start to think "That new sweater would look perfect with my (insert item of clothing)!" or "This new necklace is so pretty and it's on sale! I HAVE to have it!" or "But, I've wanted this item for FOREVER!" that's exactly the point where you should think about your closet (in my case ROOM) that I can't keep clean because I have so much. Really, we are all very blessed and don't really need any of these things.

2. Concentrate on your other interests. If online shopping when you're bored is your problem (like it is mine) try to instead fill your time by researching your other interests. Maybe a new book has come out, or there's a new recipe you want to try. Or even a craft project you've been neglecting. You could even watch a video on how to improve your golf swing. For me it's very important that I develop all areas of my life, not just having the cutest new clothes.

3. Unsubscribe from company email lists. If you don't know about an upcoming sale or new arrivals, you won't be tempted to shop it. And for heaven's sake, don't 'just swing' by the mall! What other reason would bring you there expect to shop?!

4. Shop your closet (or your best friend's!). If you are anything like me, you probably already have the 'perfect' item to complete an outfit or something similar buried away in your closet. Maybe one of your friends is the same size and you want to do a little switch-a-roo! Nothing like a few 'new' pieces, just make sure you give it back (and they will too).

Hope this was helpful to everyone!! Make sure to check out Shelby, Krista, and Sydney's blogs for their tips too!!

The Getty Museum

The Getty Museum in Los Angles is a must-do if you are in the area. The views outside are breath-taking and the exhibits are amazing! I've been several times and still haven't seen everything there is to see!

Jacket: Brooks Brothers (similar) // Scarf: Lilly Pulitzer // Purse: J.Crew (similar) // Flats: Tory Burch

My favorite is the Decorative Arts Exhibit (1600-1800's)
pink and green!!
I honestly wish I could decorate my home with this furniture and china!

A few famous paintings you might recognize:
Monet 'Haystacks'
Van Gogh 'Irises'
Renoir (my favorite of all)
The views are spectacular!!!

A few tips if you are going to visit:
-Admission is free, parking is $15
-Arrive early, it gets very crowded
-Get a ipod/headset in the entrance building, (free) so much great info about various pieces
-Wear walking shoes and don't bring a heavy bag
-You can bring food to picnic

Have you all been to the Getty?

Laguna Beach

I had a feeling that my somerset dress would be the perfect throw-on everyday dress! And I was right ;)

Perfect as a beach cover-up! And if styled differently, perfect for many other occasions too. I'm always on the look-out for super versatile pieces that can be packed easily for vacation.

I'm wishing for more beach weather!!

President's Day Weekend {Snapshots}

Happy Tuesday!! I hope you all had a lovely 3-day weekend!! I packed my bags and headed down to Orange County to visit family, which is always a nice treat!

A few snapshots from the weekend:

Nothing like a little toile and a homemade latte to start the weekend!
The weather was nice on Saturday so headed to Laguna Beach for some sun!
The water was freezing!
Saturday evening cocktails from a vintage bar cart brought back from Italy!
Church outfit
Some Sunday afternoon shooting!
Getting our tea ready for Downton Abbey
And a yummy homemade chocolate mousse for the Downtown Finale!
Now, I just need to find a way to get back into the swing of things after two four-day weekends and two Southern California trips in a row!!
